Tumaco Colombia - Cacao de Mujeres 70%

£5.65

This chocolate bar is made from cocoa beans grown and processed by Afromuvaras, a women’s association in the Las Varas area of Tumaco, Colombia. Afromuvaras creates opportunities for rural women to develop skills in artisanal cacao production. The beans travelled to Exeter, via a speciality cacao importer and we used our expertise to bring out their identity in this bar.

About the beans

The Tumaco region has suffered for decades as a result of coca cultivation, trafficking and weak government policy. In the Consejo Las Varas area, small producers come to sell their cacao and the price paid depends on quality. The fruits must be well selected and fresh when they arrive at the fermentation centre. The Afromuvaras women’s association pays more for well-sorted cacao.

“We are the protectors of the family economy and the forest” - Judith Rodriguez, President of the Afromuvaras Association.
