From the volcanic soils of Surabaya, Indonesia. Once the pods have been collected, they are submitted to a strict selection process to separate the light beans from the dark beans.

During the rainy season the beans might be artificially dried (over a wood fire), lending them the typical smoky notes they are so well known for. The smokiness makes these the Marmite of cacao beans - you either love them or hate them!

Deep notes of caramel and toffee, with strong flavours of leather and smoke accompany the lighter notes of tobacco and fruit.
